Ok since i didnt know how to put pics in the last one i made this one, well now here some are. But before i go into this i have to tell you that your may turn out different so plz dont worry if yours is different. Please do not copy this and paste it somewhere without my consent or without giving me credit! This will be a simple one just to open a(n) entrance. Ok now here is what you have been waiting for.......!!!
NOW HERES THE GUIDE!!


Ok now for the first part place land down close together. like THIS

Then place a jail wall down.like THIS(the jail wall is in the objects area)

Then make a spot(land) where you want your jail guard(s) or any other unit that you want to open the jail walls with. like THIS
Now for the fun part(lol this is the worst part)

OPEN THE GATES

X ACTIVE
X LOOP
RUN

Condition
distance to point
source unit-Jail guard
area-area where you want the jail guard to go
operator-<=
Distance- the distance you want your jail guard to be from the assigned area

Timer-2

Effects

Change unit type
unit-jail wall
protounit-cinematic block(why the cinematic block you ask it is because it is and invisible marker that they can walk through but it can be very useful at times)

CLOSE THE GATES
X ACTIVE
X LOOP
RUN

Condition
distance to point
source unit-jail guard
area-area that you want your jail gaurd to go to make the jail wall close
operator-<=
distance-the distance you want the jail guard to be to the assigned area

Timer-2

Effects
change unit type
unit-jail wall
protounit-jail wall

As I said before you can use this with jail walls to look at my finished project HERE

I hoped this helped because this is my first guide that I have ever made I hope this helped a little for the noobs that have just started designing, but most of the experienced designers know what I have just talked about!

It does. However, I still think it should have a screenie showing the gate "in action".

Nice that you have written down this guide Loki, Good work !!...indeed it could use some screenies in the main topic......lol as for seeing the concept in action....you could for example check "The wizard" scenario from my campaign...used this little trick a lot in that scenario

Oh and Loki you forgot to add the second jail wall in your screenies ( open gate status)

so one is place like this : __ (closed) and the other is placed on top of the first one like this: / (open)

The result will be this: __/

Well then simply change the "open" status wall into a cinematic block when the game starts.....and change it back into a jailwall whenever the action is performed to "open" the gate.....ofcourse you will then also change the "closed" status wall into a cinematic block

Ofcourse its not needed but it gives a nice suggestion of an open and closed jaildoor action

Oh and about the rain thingy...you asked that in another thread.... I used it like this: just changing cinematic blocks into rain objects.....i placed the blocks/rainobjects on parts which i knew would become visible to the player or on certain keypoints....that way I did not have rain all over the map but just gave the "illusion" or "Feel" of raining during the scenario.....and just like JML says...it helps also preventing lag...to see it in action check the "Walsungen" scenario...in that scenario the rain is part of a lightning storm which starts and ends somewhere during the scenario

Well keep up the good spirit with writing guides and ofcourse constructing your aom webbie
