effort in the world would have gone to waste until...

    The sun slowly set over City 17 as Civil Protection
    increased their patrols. While many would think this was
    an ideal time for the Resistance to run people through the
    underground railroad in the canals, it was also the worst,
    because this was when the zombies were most active. The
    citizens bunkered down to sleep, hoping that the Combine
    wouldn't decide to raid their homes and take their
    children during the night, or worse, take them. The things
    that happened to those that were taken were the stuff of
    children's nightmares. But then, rumors from Nova Prospekt
    about what happened to captured resistance members was the
    stuff of adults' nightmares. Needless to say, everyone
    would be sleeping lightly tonight.

    The sun rose over City 17. Of course, this didn't make
    things look nicer, but simply revealed how depraved the
    city truly was. As was the routine, citizens awoke to the
    Breencast, something they all loathed to watch, but then,
    it was the only thing on TV anymore, and not watching it
    was against Combine regulations, so while only some
    actually paid attention, Breen was on every TV in every
    room of every apartment complex and on all the public
    screens.

    "Good morning citizens of City 17. I have some grave news
    for you all. Today we found a citizen beaten to death in
    an alley. Upon closer inspection, most of the wounds
    appear to be those made by a crowbar, but he also had most
    of his face blown off by a shotgun. We currently suspect
    the rogue Doctor Gordon Freeman to have committed such an
    atrocity, but no word yet on who his accomplice in this
    evil deed might have been. Thus, I encourage Doctor
    Freeman to turn himself into authorities that he may be
    questioned. In other, happier news, during a raid on the
    canal system, our Manhacks cut down a Resistance
    Vortigaunt who was later identified by loyal Vortigaunts
    to be named Heap. In other news, there was a technical
    problem with the security wall leading into and out of the
    Citadel last night, which is why there were no OverWatch
    patrolling the streets last night. Please have a wonderful
    day, and remember, it's safer here."

    A Citizen (TBK145), a vanilla towny, has been killed.
    Heap (DragonQ), a vortigaunt, has been killed.
    It is now Day 1.
    There are 21 of you, so it is 11 to lynch.

    Pretty sure he's a good guy. And I'm guessing Morgan is our vig, and that he took a careless shot in the dark maybe? Or perhaps Morgan is a survivor or something...

    Before any of you go off and start random voting... I wonder as to the game setup...

    I haven't yet played HL2... well, other than a mission or two with a friend... so I would be unsure what to expect... Do you think there would be multiple mafias? Or cults? If so... it would be good to label them early.

    According to my quick research (never played HL2 or HL1 for that matter), Freeman is the protagonist. The "Combine" is probably the mafia. A Vortigaunt is hostile though, according to Wikipedia, so hurrah.

    But for even suggesting that a Cop "poke his head up" this early: FoS: Jackpb
    If so... it would be good to label them early.
    Why? Sounds like a waste of time to me. We're never going to be able to know for sure and even if we could it wouldn't help us catch scum.

    In a game this size, there is probably more than one faction against us (maybe a SK rather than multiple mafias). Beyond that however, speculation is pretty useless.

    Nonsense. If we know what we are up against... the game becomes much easier... If we have a good idea as to the setup... then we can pretty much know how many scum we would... deal with. Say there are 3 mafias... we would know that they would likely be 4 each... letting us know that by the end, 12 should be dead.

    That helps us, how? My personal strategy for mafia games is to keep finding and lynching scum until the game ends. I don't see how knowing the number beforehand is much use.

    We can't possibly know what the setup is anyway, especially on Day 1. So even if it would be helpful, it's not an option.

    Well... it affects how we group people together... For example, if there are three groups of 4... we know that we have made a wrong assumption... if it seems five or six people are covering eachother... But if there is one larger mafia... it means that they very well could all be scum.

    I played this for an hour or so... But if I've figured things correctly, Freeman is the protagonist, he's the character you play. In the game, you fight against the aliens that have essentially taken over earth, trying to fight them off. Therefore, I would think that Freeman would be town, and a vigilante or jack of trades. In any case, if he's town, he was wrong in random killing.

    I imagine FoO is speculating that Sails can either not vote, or can only vote in a limited way. That's what I'd guess if I had to.
