An Age of Mythology Heaven Halloween-Themed Screenshot Contest


With the success of Hocus Pocus 2006, I, along with help from The Vandhaal, have decided to bring back the Halloween screenshot competition. This is a great opportunity to test out your skills. Don't worry about whether or not your screenshot will match up to the others, just try your best, be creative, and have fun!

Theme: Halloween

Schedule
October 1 - Contest Announced
October 22 - Submission Deadline
October 23-24 - Prep period to allow Vandhaal to get the voting sheet set up
October 25-30 - Voting on Vandhaal.Elpea.Net / Vandhaal.GamingExtremes.US
October 31 - Presentation (Results will be announced by a mystery guest!)

Rules/Guidelines:
  • You may only enter 1 custom screenie
  • Screenshots may have custom lightings and mods as long as they are your work. (Don't use someone else's mods) Modding is a very big part of designing and I would like to encourage that. However, 2D mods are not allowed.
  • You may not edit your screenshot in any program outside of the AoM editor (ex: Photoshop, Gimp, etc.)
  • All screenshots must be emailed by the current deadline (October 22, 2007)
  • Screenies must go along with the current theme (Halloween)
  • All screenshots have to have been made after the start of this contest
  • All screenshots will be anonymous until after voting. Please do not show anyone else your entry or add any distinguishing watermarks to your screenshot.

    Try to take your screenshot with the highest graphics level possible.

    Voting & Prizes
    As mentioned before, all screenshots must remain anonymous until Halloween. Voting will be the same process as voting for the 7 Wonders of the AoM World. The Vandhaal has been kind enough to host and setup the voting sheet.

    Each person, after registering with an active email, will be able to vote on his or her three favorite entries.

    The creator of the first place entry, will get their choice of one of the following HG-sponsored games:

  • Age of Empires Collector's Edition (AoE, AoE: RoR, AoK, AoK: TC)
  • Age of Empires III
  • AoE3 ypack: The Asian Dynasties
  • BFME2
  • Empire at War
  • Rise of Legends
  • Rome Total War
  • Starcraft I
  • The Titans (for current vanilla users)

    - The game will be purchased from Amazon with 5% to 15% of the cost going back to HeavenGames.

    Second place will receive an AoM poster from Papaya.

    Entry Submission
    When you are ready, send your entry to me at alex@walzstreetjournal.com

    In your email, be sure to include the following:
  • Your Username
  • Your HG Registration ID
    - Leave blank unless you had a name change within your time at HG. For example, my id would be “pEpsIdUDe_123” and username would be “Alex”.
  • Your entry’s title (keep it short)
  • Your entry
    - Preferably in .jpg format and no larger than 1024x768

    For anyone who doesn't celebrate Halloween and doesn't know what the holiday is, Halloween is a holiday celebrated with kids (and some adults) dressing up in costums (usually of things like ghouls, fairies, witches, etc.) Halloween is symbolized with the dead and creatures like ghosts and goblins.

    Finally, this contest has came! There are going to be many participants for this year, including me. lets just hope i can finish my homework so I can have time! I havent been very active alot, so this should get me started on eye-candy again.

    As for the prizes for 1st place, I have most of them . However, a new game might not be so bad!
    If you don't know what to write, start writing. Same thing with scenario design. If you have know idea yet, start designing.

    But, I have two questions:

    Excuse my ignorance, but what is a 2D mod?

    2D Mods usually refer to Texture mods or Terrain mods
    I thought 2D mods where 2D objects (such as Cinematic Tree) get their texture changed.
    No he means probably 2d mods as in editing the image with a Graphics program like photoshop etc etc

    Yes, don't post them here. That was just copied over from HP 2006.

    And I don't think anyone correctly answered (except Poisonium touched up on it) what I meant by 2D mods. New textures and terrains are perfectly fine. What I'm talking about is if someone wanted to be cheap and took a picture of a horror movie and just pasted it onto the texture file for something like the cinematic tree and just enlarged it...

    And thanks for the news, Paperfriend. Would you mind if I sent you all the images before voting and you could set up a gallery? The Vandhaal is low on bandwith but they would still be the ones seen on the voting page. Would you need thumbs as well or does it make them automatically?

    I've already received some fantastic entries. Although I don't expect I've received any more this early, there may be a chance that your picture does not send correctly or gets stuck in my massive spam folder. If I do not reply within 24 hours, please resend.

    Doesn't this suck, I'm an Aussie and Aussie's don't celebrate Haloween which means I have to go by what I've read in books and seen on tv.
