It is now possible to not just make a whole texture invisible, but also certain parts of one! This is something I've been trying to achieve for ages.
It came to me when I was editing the folstag flag texture and noticed it looked like this:

That got me thinking and I tried it on Reginleif's annoying helmet wings not really thinking it's work and whatta ya know, it does!

Heres how to do it:

1. Open your texture and paint the whole of the bottom part white.
2. Find the part of the texture you want to remove.
3. Find the corresponding part in the bottom part and paint it black.
4. Save your texture and convert with AoMED using:
15-bit, 1-bit alpha [0]
and there you are! I havn't tested with non cine textures but I don't see why it won't work with them. Heres a screen:

This sounds interesting, will you release the Reginleif mod?

I acually like her helmet, but without is cool to. It looks great and she's a hottie with that different hair color instead of red.

Can you just colour in her bottom lip a bit, it makes her look like she has buck-teeth! Otherwise it's great.

.... and I think to myself; what a wonderful world ... yeh!!!

Yes I did, but what has that got to do with this?

Can I suggest you now experiment with 12 4 0 5. This allows grey shade transparency (white = solid, black = invisible, grey scale = percent transparency), you can then make some of the clothing "see through" (for purely artistic reasons only, of course).

Like this (Invisible Frodo, which is all about 90% transparent), but you can paint different grey shades to different areas creating some nice effects:

The only thing is that for some reason, the _idle version of models doesn't like being switched from a 15 x x 5 format to a 12 4 x 5 format so you need to create a copy of the _idle model and hex edit the .brg to point directly to the greyscale transparency texture.

.... and I think to myself; what a wonderful world ... yeh!!!

Actually this trick isn't new at all. Its 4 years old. There are guides on this site already actually. The nidhogg also uses the same texture "trick" allowing both transparency and player color. It has to do with how you convert the texture, and which parts of the model are defined as "transparency" faces or "player color" faces. Here is a link to the guide. This also works with not just cinematic textures but any texture.

MythicRuler is right, this trick is not really new. I discovered it on my own when I started editing textures a couple of moths ago and that link Mythic posted shows that it was discovered a long time ago.

The thing about modding is that it's MODDING that's difficult, it's doing it well that's the challenge. Banoffee is one that does it well.

Aually this is differant from that. In that it mearley tells you how to make an invisible texture, in this it allows you to make only some parts of the texture invisible.

Ok guys, I need your help:

Try as I might I can't find a way to make the sheild (as you can see) completly disapear. Similarly I can only get rid of the playercolour by using the new white player colour (left).

Does anyone know a solution to one of these problems?

when i was doing my mod for the competition I tried to make the destroyer's cape invisible and I noticed that you can't make playercolor areas invisible

wait i remember when i was making ghengis khan i used the huskarl and when i tried to make the head invisible, i accidentally replaced the cape. and it became invisible
i had a rectangle of 64 by 128
the upper-half was withe
and the lower-half black
and converted it as 15 bit 1 alpha [0], 5 mipmaps

i think its the problem that u make the upperhalf black.

look at the hoplite crest

the grey part in the lowerleft-corner of the texture became less blue in the game.
and with black ther is no black

so make the texture white above and black below and convert as 15 bit 1 alpha [0], 5 mipmaps

This technique is pretty old. But kudos for figuring it out on your own, I suppose.

Whatever PPE, you say that as if I'm some noob who just learned how to use MS Paint, get a life. If its so old why has no one ever used it like I have before?

@EmjeR: I tried that, didn't work just made the black triangle things white.
