AOKH Survivor

How it works

You sign up. In each round, a challenge is set. You complete the challenge. The owner of the worst entry is eliminated. The last forummer to remain in the game is declared the Survivor.

The Rules

It is now too late to sign up, sorry. Every player has one "bye" - a free pass for one round of their choosing (not including the final round). You don't need to state when you are using your bye; if you do not submit an entry in time, your bye will be used.♦

If you enter a round but are eliminated, you then join the judging panel. If you fail to submit an entry and have used your bye, you are eliminated but you will not be eligible to join the judging panel.♥

In each round, the entries will be judged by the judging panel. The judging criteria will be made public within this thread, so you'll have a good idea of how to succeed.♣

The prize is a very impressive and shiny Custom Title, courtesy of Leif Ericson♠

THE FINAL

For the final, Major Helper and Watson will be racing against each other to submit the correct answers to a set of six puzzles. You may submit your answers either by email (closet.hippy(at)gmail(dot)com) or within the thread - but bear in mind, if you submit in the thread and get anything wrong, the other player may hijack your answers! You win when you get all six answers correct.

The puzzles vary in style and difficulty but you must get all of the answers correct in order to win and claim the prize of a Custom Title, courtesy of Leif Ericson. If you submit an incorrect answer, I will tell you which answer(s) you have got wrong and you may try again. There is no deadline; the round closes once one player gets all the answers correct - they are then declared the Survivor.

Puzzle One

The King is hosting a large party. So large, in fact, that he has 1000 bottles of wine to cater for his guests. However, some scallywag has poisoned one (and only one) bottle of the wine. Naturally, it would be disastrous to serve poisoned wine to the guests - and it is too late to replace it all because the party is tomorrow. Fortunately, the King has servants at his disposal; if a servant consumes even the slightest trace of the poison, he will die a few hours before the party - giving you time to remove the poisoned bottle before your guests arrive. Your servants are not indispensable, however; you must use as few servants as possible and yet be absolutely certain which bottle is the poisoned one. How many servants do you need and how do you find the poisoned bottle?

Your answer should include the number of servants and the method you would employ to find the dodgy bottle. Any method that works is acceptable (eg. use 1000 servants) but the most efficient answer (i.e. the fewest servants used) is preferable.

Puzzle Two

2: Harold
3: Edward
5: Harold
7: James

What's next? Why?

Your answer should be a number and a name. You should give the reason behind your logic. Google may help here.

Puzzle Three

This puzzle is in two parts: The first line can be decoded to give a clue towards the second part. The solution to the second puzzle is your answer.

(Part i): 843153996731471843134448413536368

(Part ii): Fclhcja'q ruk cilkqrepq.

Your answer should be easy to find once you have solved Part ii.

Puzzle Four

What has it got in its pocketses?

Puzzle Five

It came between Time and Money. What was it?

Clue: 39 years ago

Puzzle Six

William the Conqueror is BAGG. Who is BEJC?

While I think Popey was perhaps a little heavy-handed, I agree with the reasoning behind it. If a player kicks off at the ref in football he risks getting a red card - and rightly so.

It's certainly a lot simpler to score within the thread - that way if I make any arithmetic mistakes they're far more likely to be spotted and corrected.

That too. And any accusations of collusion behind the scenes would be impossible to dispel without posting the scores here anyway.

Also true. On reflection I agree with Herr; it's better to get the discrepancies dealt with early on and in the open, rather than all at once when scores are published and someone is eliminated.

Also, after this is finished, does anybody else fancy hosting a similar size game, though not necessarily in the same style? It's a lot of fun!

The deadline has passed and the scores are in!

In first place with a whopping 36 out of a maximum of 40, it's Major Helper! Congratulations!

In second and third are Ser Periagil (31) and Watson (19) - well done for making it to the semi final.

In last place despite an impressive entry, it's CarolKarine with 14 points.

CarolKarine, you have been flushed away. Welcome to the judging panel
It's getting tricky to think of new verbs!

The semi final will be posted later today - I overslept so I can't do it right now, sorry

Round 10
The Semi Final - Masterchef

In this round, you will have to cook or create one culinary dish, document the process and submit at least one photo of the end result. Simple!

Rules

You must cook the dish from scratch - no ready meals allowed (things like pre-made pastry are fine, but the bulk of the work must be done by you).
You may only enter one course, but you may choose whether you cook a main meal, dessert, breakfast etc. You may also submit any accompaniments, such as a side salad, if you feel like it.
Obviously we, the judges, can't taste your food. Therefore, we will be judging on characteristics such as creativity, flair, aesthetics and complexity. Each judge may mark as he/she sees fit (by different criteria), though I ask that they are not biased against foods they personally dislike (eg. any vegetarians, please try to judge based on the dish, not on whether you'd like to eat it!)
You must submit some form of evidence of how you created your dish; you can write the recipe/method you used, you can take photos of the cooking process - even a video if you like.
As per usual, please include some evidence that the creation we're judging is yours - I don't want to see a collection of photos from google image search!
The judging will take place within the thread and using the +3...+1 system as usual. Any arguments over scoring mean the judge in question is at liberty to dock your points as he/she sees fit.

Good luck to our three semi-finalists: Ser Periagil, Watson and Major Helper!

The deadline is Midnight (forum time) 8th February 2012.

I am also less willing to give extensions after being so generous in the past, so please try to submit an entry in time.

So foods made with the help of a recipe are automatically out of the window since there's zero creativity?

Nothing is automatically out of the window. I could easily find a recipe for a cake, bake it exactly as it says, then decorate it in a kickass way. Also, if your dish lacks a little in creativity but makes up for it in complexity and appearance, you could easily still win. There are only two other contenders now, remember.

Cook a good dish and you'll probably do well. Simple, really

Also, anybody else who fancies having a go, feel free!

Edit: OP now updated with links to each of the previous rounds for posterity - this thread is nearing the end and that makes me sad:

I would suggest, that all competitors make a dish that is more:
1) Common
2) Imaginative(Imagine means how it was made)
3) Creative(Anything which enhances the dish)
4) One can just taste it thorugh the pic(Literally)
5) Good Looking

I will suggest you guys go for something that is usually made for breakfast,
which is really easy to make for anyone and can be mostly found on brakfast tables around the world.
You can go for desserts if you really can, or stay on plain grounds by using the WHITE BOMB!!*hint*
Basically, it should be a dish that everyone can recognise at once.

Also i will post my dish by this sunday(6th feb)

I slightly disagree with this.
I know that Indian cuisine will be a good choice, but not a safe.
I hope Gil can see that the judging panel has mostly non-indian judges.
I could very well give you excellent points for the indian dish you make(cause i will be knowing it) but other judges will
probably not!But then its your choice, if you are willing to take risk by making an india dish. Now i know i should not be
saying that it is a risk, as it could be either an advantage or disadvantage.
Seeing Popey mention about Indian Cusine makes me think that you should take this risk(I am saying it as risk because
you, have made it this far...and i would not like to see you lose, for the fact nor anyother contestant too! )

Making an Indian Cusine = 50% risk(or as we say riks in my language sometimes )
