AOKH Survivor

How it works
You sign up. In each round, a challenge is set. You complete the challenge. The owner of the worst entry is eliminated. The last forummer to remain in the game is declared the Survivor.

The Rules
♦It is now too late to sign up, sorry. Every player has one "bye" - a free pass for one round of their choosing (not including the final round). You don't need to state when you are using your bye; if you do not submit an entry in time, your bye will be used.♦

♥If you enter a round but are eliminated, you then join the judging panel. If you fail to submit an entry and have used your bye, you are eliminated but you will not be eligible to join the judging panel.♥

♣In each round, the entries will be judged by the judging panel. The judging criteria will be made public within this thread, so you'll have a good idea of how to succeed.♣

♠The prize is a very impressive and shiny Custom Title, courtesy of Leif Ericson♠

THE FINAL

For the final, Major Helper and Watson will be racing against each other to submit the correct answers to a set of six puzzles. You may submit your answers either by email (closet.hippy(at)gmail(dot)com) or within the thread - but bear in mind, if you submit in the thread and get anything wrong, the other player may hijack your answers! You win when you get all six answers correct.

The puzzles vary in style and difficulty but you must get all of the answers correct in order to win and claim the prize of a Custom Title, courtesy of Leif Ericson. If you submit an incorrect answer, I will tell you which answer(s) you have got wrong and you may try again. There is no deadline; the round closes once one player gets all the answers correct - they are then declared the Survivor.

Puzzle One

The King is hosting a large party. So large, in fact, that he has 1000 bottles of wine to cater for his guests. However, some scallywag has poisoned one (and only one) bottle of the wine. Naturally, it would be disastrous to serve poisoned wine to the guests - and it is too late to replace it all because the party is tomorrow. Fortunately, the King has servants at his disposal; if a servant consumes even the slightest trace of the poison, he will die a few hours before the party - giving you time to remove the poisoned bottle before your guests arrive. Your servants are not indispensable, however; you must use as few servants as possible and yet be absolutely certain which bottle is the poisoned one. How many servants do you need and how do you find the poisoned bottle?

Your answer should include the number of servants and the method you would employ to find the dodgy bottle. Any method that works is acceptable (eg. use 1000 servants) but the most efficient answer (i.e. the fewest servants used) is preferable.

Also IMO its a bit unfair that Scragins had to depart seeing as two people got less votes than him (i.e. 0) but I guess I'll follow your judgement on this.

Mashek and Dannflor were eliminated last round due to inactivity. Sorry to see you knocked out, scragins, but I can't really just let rounds pass without eliminating someone otherwise this would go on forever! Welcome to the judging panel though

Round Five has been announced

Round Five
Scavenger hunt (don't worry, it won't be as difficult as this).

Your task in this round is to collect as many of these listed items as you can, take a photo of them, upload it here and then sit back as you cruise into the next round.

Here is the list:
- Coins from two different currencies.
- A bottle cap (the type you need a bottle opener for).
- A key.
- A toy soldier.
- A toothbrush.
- The joker from a deck of cards.
- A tablet (nothing illegal please, paracetamol will do nicely).
- A Harry Potter book.
- A leaf.
- A sweet in a wrapper.
- Something beginning with Q (judges discretion - "quite a pretty flower" doesn't count).
- An item of obsolete technology (eg a casette, a VHS tape, vinyl record, a floppy disk).
- Something that can light a fire.
- An item of sports equipment.
- Something more than ten years old. Bonus points if it's more than 50 years old.
- Something out of season (eg. sunglasses if you're a Brit, a parsnip if you're Australian, an Easter egg...).
- Something pink.
- A teabag.
- A puzzle (eg a sudoku or a rubik's cube. Bonus points if it's solved).
- A piece of string tied in a fancy knot. Bonus points for a more complicated knot.

Rules
♦ You may swap items. If you feel the need to substitute one item for another, please justify the substitution (eg: "I didn't include a toy soldier because I am a military objector; I included a plastic Mahatma Gandhi instead.") If you just ignore one item with no replacement or justification, you will not get the point.
♦ You may update your entry as often as you wish and whenever you feel like, up until the deadline.
♦ All the items must be in one photo; try to make the resolution as good as possible so we can definitely see all the items.
♦ It would be very helpful if, when you post an entry, you list all the items you have included (or replaced, along with a justification as to why your replacement should be accepted).
♦ Bonus points do not count towards your score, but will be used in the event of a tie break. A particularly entertaining substitution may also earn bonus points. Bonus points may also be awarded for particularly inventive items.
♦ Using your bye is allowed again.

The deadline is midnight Wednesday 23rd November (forum time)

A very interesting round this one. I'm currently at my parents' but thankfully my laptop has a camera so I'll be able to post entries

EDIT: my laptop's camera isn't that good resolution though, so is it allowed to take some individual pics of the smaller things so I can prove they're what I say they are?

Would it be ok to take two pictures with stuff in them, because since I'm at my parents' I don't have access to all necessary equipment to have in one picture?

EG. would a separate picture of, say, Harry Potter book being visible in one of my pictures be enough proof that I have one (eligible for points that is)? Since my HP books are in my own apartment and my parents don't have them.

Or do all the 20 items need to be in the same picture?

EDIT: reading the rules again, it seems everything must be in the same picture. Oh well.

The other question still stands (about whether I can take a couple closer shots to prove things are what I sa they are (like the coins)

Sports Equipment: Gumshield.
Out of season: Textbook for the summer semester.
Bottle cap: No crown caps in my flat, so I got the next best thing: an empty bottle of J�germeister.
Pill: Multivitamin.
Firestarter: Toasterbox. You could set it on fire, and the toaster inside could be quire useful. I cba to get the actual toaster from my kitchen.
Toothbrush
Obselete: Minidisk.
Leaf found in my window mechanism.
Funky uni room key.
Pink plastic shot glass.
Sweet in wrapper: Cadbury's wishes. It's a single bit of chocolate.
Tea: Tetleys, green teabag, with Union Flag mug.
Jokers from a set depicting English/Wessex Monarchs since Alfred the Great. Canute, because he tried to hold back the tide (actually, he was demonstrating the futility of standing against God's will), George IV, because he acted as regent for his insane father longer than he was actually king, Edward VIII, for being the shortest-reigning monarch, due to his abdication.
No toy soldier. But I do have an Eighteen-year-old Owl. It's far superior.
No Harry Potter either, I despise it. So I got my copy of War and Peace instead. I've read it, it's 1215 pages long.

None of my relatives nearby own a Harry Potter book, aargh! Nor do my neighbours. Seems like I'll have to substitute it
