AOKH Survivor

How it works

You sign up. In each round, a challenge is set. You complete the challenge. The owner of the worst entry is eliminated. The last forummer to remain in the game is declared the Survivor.

The Rules

It is now too late to sign up, sorry. Every player has one "bye" - a free pass for one round of their choosing (not including the final round). You don't need to state when you are using your bye; if you do not submit an entry in time, your bye will be used.♦

If you enter a round but are eliminated, you then join the judging panel. If you fail to submit an entry and have used your bye, you are eliminated but you will not be eligible to join the judging panel.♥

In each round, the entries will be judged by the judging panel. The judging criteria will be made public within this thread, so you'll have a good idea of how to succeed.♣

The prize is a very impressive and shiny Custom Title, courtesy of Leif Ericson♠

THE FINAL

For the final, Major Helper and Watson will be racing against each other to submit the correct answers to a set of six puzzles. You may submit your answers either by email (closet.hippy(at)gmail(dot)com) or within the thread - but bear in mind, if you submit in the thread and get anything wrong, the other player may hijack your answers! You win when you get all six answers correct.

The puzzles vary in style and difficulty but you must get all of the answers correct in order to win and claim the prize of a Custom Title, courtesy of Leif Ericson. If you submit an incorrect answer, I will tell you which answer(s) you have got wrong and you may try again. There is no deadline; the round closes once one player gets all the answers correct - they are then declared the Survivor.

Puzzle One

The King is hosting a large party. So large, in fact, that he has 1000 bottles of wine to cater for his guests. However, some scallywag has poisoned one (and only one) bottle of the wine. Naturally, it would be disastrous to serve poisoned wine to the guests - and it is too late to replace it all because the party is tomorrow. Fortunately, the King has servants at his disposal; if a servant consumes even the slightest trace of the poison, he will die a few hours before the party - giving you time to remove the poisoned bottle before your guests arrive. Your servants are not indispensable, however; you must use as few servants as possible and yet be absolutely certain which bottle is the poisoned one. How many servants do you need and how do you find the poisoned bottle?

Your answer should include the number of servants and the method you would employ to find the dodgy bottle. Any method that works is acceptable (eg. use 1000 servants) but the most efficient answer (i.e. the fewest servants used) is preferable.

Puzzle Two

2: Harold
3: Edward
5: Harold
7: James

What's next? Why?

Your answer should be a number and a name. You should give the reason behind your logic. Google may help here.

Puzzle Three

This puzzle is in two parts: The first line can be decoded to give a clue towards the second part. The solution to the second puzzle is your answer.

(Part i): 843153996731471843134448413536368

(Part ii): Fclhcja'q ruk cilkqrepq.

Your answer should be easy to find once you have solved Part ii.

Puzzle Four

What has it got in its pocketses?

Puzzle Five

It came between Time and Money. What was it?

Clue: 39 years ago

Puzzle Six

William the Conqueror is BAGG. Who is BEJC?

That's a shame

Judges, can you have a look through all the entries (post numbers are handily listed in the OP) and email me your top/bottom choices? It doesn't look like there will be any last minute entries if Mole can't get one in. Naturally if a new one crops up we'll have a re-vote. Cheers

Time is indeed up. Glad you got an entry in on time, thy. I haven't had a reply from Hades or Coldviper but since Herr and I agree entirely, the results have been decided.

The judges' favourite was Watson with his awesome dragon.
Highly recommended were Popeychops, Major Helper and Abhaas Periagil.

DraconainDevil, you have been exterminated.

Round Three

"Internet Explorer"

Don't worry, this round won't involve downgrading to that hunk of junk Microsoft calls a browser, you're just going exploring...through the internet...

Below is a collage of 20 pictures, taken from all over the world. Your task is to figure out where they are all from. If you get the exact placename, you'll get two points. Get the right country and you get one. So there are 40 points up for grabs. Now obviously if you just list your answers in the thread, some sneaky competitors will probably try to copy you so don't post your answers in this thread. Instead, email them to me at closet[dot]hippy[at]gmail[dot]com along with your forum name so I know which entry belongs to which forummer. Feel free to stick a joke in the email too, I like jokes.

This is the pic (it's deliberately compiled of fairly small images to make your job that little bit harder ):

There is a legend, so you know which number correlates to each picture.

To summarise: You take a gander at the picture. You work out where each location is. You list them, like this:

1. The Empire State Building, New York, USA
2. Machu Picchu, Peru
3. The Berlin Wall, Germany
etc ad nauseam.

Then you email them to me at closet[dot]hippy[at]gmail[dot]com
FYI, these are not the actual answers, don't be ridiculous.

Judging Criteria

This week, the judges get a bit of an easy ride - you'll either have it right, half right or wrong. 40 marks up for grabs, with a tie-breaker up my sleeve if need be.

You only get one chance! If you email me a list and then decide to tweak it later in the week, you'll be too late. I'll only accept the first email, so be careful.

If you could notify me in this thread when you submit, that'd be helpful just in case any entries accidentally wind up in the spam folder. I'll confirm receipt in-thread too.

The deadline is Midnight (forum time) Monday 7th November 2011

Any questions, feel free to ask in the thread or by email. PS Mayank, if you're reading this, I'm happy for you to still play along - you're lucky this round is conducted by email!

Draco you said you'd do a better version but you never got around to it, so we had to take that first version of yours which you yourself admitted wasn't very good. I judged the origami on the complexity and the number of folds visible and yours didn't do well on either count. I'm sorry.

Yeah, sorry to knock you out when you were such a keen competitor (I think yours was the first entry for round two). Welcome to the judging panel, though

EDIT: PS, sorry if the OP is a bit tricky to read on the current colour scheme - it might be clearer here or you can just highlight the text to make it more visible.

Also, feel free to email that directly to me too. Elsewise NT can forward that to me. Remember that discussing stuff in this thread could possibly help your competitors so try to keep that to a minimum.

I'll try to submit my entries ASAP so that NT can't accuse me of cheating off of someone else's entries.
