9 of my 12 PBEM games are dead or near dead.
I know it is hopeless to call some people for playing their turns faster but this 9 games are as dead.
Please guys take a look at the PBEM threads and games you are in and think if you can play the turns or quit the games and let us know please.
It is disapointing to see the games going down.

I am having troubles with my notebook. The heat-sensor of the graphic adapter seems to be broken. It always shows 0 degrees which keeps the fan from doing it's job... I can still use the notebook for internet, but any gaming is not possible right now. Sorry for any delays...

Itīs a pity what happens in the most PBEM games this days.
I wrote about this some days ago and today I worked through all the PBEM games and send emails to many players.
It cost me a lot time. More than 1,5 hours!

To be honest I am really angry about how things go this days.
All the abandoned games. "You" are the players who kill the joy of us players who still like to play the PBEM games!

Once in the past I kicked some asses and the only result was that some poeple said I should leave this games if I am not happy with the "game speed" but hello?

Stepping out of a game is not the big problem mates!
But not this way! Get your ass into action and use your fingers to write that you want to leave a PBEM game and maybe even try to find a sub for yourself.
But not step out without a trace or never play the games.
Once a *Bump* in a PBEM thread was able to remind the players but this way seem not to work anymore.

What happens here the last weeks (and I donīt take about vacations), is not OK.

So please think about this and play or leave the PBEM games you once joined.

Now I am feeling a little better but still not very good because the games are still on hold because you donīt play them on.

Two simple measures would avoid a lot of trouble:

1)When people post "bump" on the game threads they should always send an e-mail to the person holding the turn - a bump post alone in not effective.

2)People should put a lot of effort (what am I talking about?...) in posting at least a miserable "ts" when they play and send their turns. This is so important to keep track of them. And I've been seeing many veterans who fail at this point.

@ Groll - I gotta say, I mostly agree with you. Too many players are very inconsiderate of their fellow players, and a poor example is being made for the newer players who continue to show up. I quit the game for a long time because I was sick and tired of all of my games dying, or being the only one who would put the time in to track games down and get them going again. We all have busy lives, and it sucks to waste it on a game that dies because someone was inconsiderate of their fellow gamers.

I have been encouraged by the number of games that have been saved lately because of the password keeper service I started, and because of all of the players that are willing to step up and be a sub.

That said, it seems that part of the problem is that many players take on more then they can chew, and then they get overwhelmed and lose interest and quit. Many games are started on large, intricate maps, and while the first turns may be slow, eventually each turn will take a LONG time to play, and the game itself may stretch on for months. Many people do not take all of this into account.

Many players go in with the mindset that 'the game won't finish anyway', or that 'the game will move really slow, so I should join 10+ games so I always have a turn'. I have trouble imagining anyone with a job being able to play more then 5 games at once, especially on the really large, intense maps, but it happens a lot anyway.

The expectation for everyone should be that the game WILL finish, that they will see out any game they start to its conclusion, and that they will get their turns out at a good pace, giving the turns/game and our fellow players a priority. Consider your fellow player a friend, and you will try not to let your friend down.

Similarly, everyone in the game should try to take a responsibility to see that it gets finished. We should all post a minimum of "TS" to help us all track the turn file. We should send emails to the players the turn might be stuck between when we post a 'bump'. That bump should say emails were sent. If you are going to be busy or away, or whatever, post it so your fellow players know.

Listen, I know we are all busy, and that we all have the unexpected pop up now and again so we are not going to be able to do these things all the time, but we should strive to. If you wind up getting overloaded, or things happen, try to let someone know. Say that your posts are going to be really short for a while, or that you won't have time to post "TS" for a while, or whatever else... just COMMUNICATE.



Oh, and make sure a password keeper has your password!

Oh guys, come on... whatīs up with some of you? Arenīt we all (well, most of us) mature people that can stand any bad or silly comments that are being made?
Drawing back is a poor solution imho.
I agree that whatīs going on in the pbem scene partly is disappointing but most people have very good reasons to step out of games.
Of course they should communicate this, I agree...
But reacting with withdrawal to comments that annoy you but should rather simply be ignored by you (itīs always the the same people who make these comments so you should simply ignore or laugh about it...) is not the right way.
Remember: Thereīs still a core of reliable people around that youīll also hurt when you leave.
So think twice.
choose wisely with whom you start a game - even if it results in always playing with the same people. Better than starting and quitting in turn 10...

Please don't leave the community. As morgul said you hit all the reliable players as well with your decision and this can't be your intention. So leaving from all can't be the solution, absolutely not. We have a hard time at the moment here, but this should keep us closer together rathern then leaving the whole community. And it has nothing to do with newbie stuff.

Ibobs? DO you really want to quit your games? WE are not playing in a game togterther but I think the same as all the other players here before.
You should not leave because of some words in this thread and of course not if you are not meant.
It is summer and games are slow but this summer we a have avery big problem with lost players who abandon many PBEM games.
It is like AoW 3 was released and all players abandon AoWSM now.
AS I and greenmonster said it is sad that so many players leave without a work.
If you leave now it is OK because you have a reason and you seek for a new player yourself and you post a line here.
This is exemplary but very sad for all the players that play games with you and manybe for yourself too.
I remember TL leaving once and comming back later and leave again now.
The door is never closed and if you leave now with this small words we all will remember you well and welcome you again one day.
But as Albaron said, please donīt leave us.

It's normal when the games are slow during summer. I'm so used to it and have learned to take things easy during this period

It's true that there are a few who have to leave because of real life issues, but they are all those who will soon come back. Besides, a lot of new players arrived lately and that showed me the contrary of PBEM being falling apart.

Humnn, I wonder how the new players that arrived recently feel about this community and the attention and care it provided to them.

I've got two turns in my inbox and I don't think I'll get to them until Sat night (and I've had them for a day or two already). Marlene's Welt and Marlene's Schatten. Both games will take lots of time to play and I'm going camping with the scouts tomorrow night and trying to get the AoW1 2v2 tourney organized for round 2.

I think our community needs to do more to welcome, encourage, and educate new/newer players.

I think the veterans take for granted how difficult it can be to jump into this game, and learn all of the guidelines we have created to help things run smoothly.

I'm going to see if I can come up with ideas to address this...

It seems we're having a lot of newbies signed up for the tournament, so a comprehensive guide would be useful indeed. The timing is perfect.

We can also modified the head post of this thread to add more information for new players. Everyone seems to post in this thread to find a way to start PBEM. So a more comprehensive head post with more informations for new players to learn (how to do the PBEM setup, how to start a new game, or to get into existing games as sub, some suggestions of which maps to start,...) would be nice for all the new players, IMHO
